Mimikaki of the Day #7 - Ears Cleaner
02/15/2005 @ 12:00 am
For some reason, today’s mimikaki gets the distinction of being called Ears Cleaner.
It a relatively simple tool distinguished by a stack of four circular blades that form what the manufacturer calls a “360-degree head that leaves nothing behind.”
The manufacturer also cautions that though the head of this mimikaki resembles the threads of a screw, the user should never attempt to screw it into the ear canal because doing so would be quite painful. . . (I hate when I do that!)
Only 630 yen will get you a set that includes two mimikaki (of different sizes), bonten (a wood stick with a round downy feather on the end, also for sticking into the ear) , head cleaning brush, and special case.

OK, I mean, you guys can keep going with this, I’m sure people love it. It’s just.. I dunno.. mimikaki freak me out! growing up with Q-Tips, my whole life I felt like ear cleaning should always be non-invasive and disposable. It’s one of the few aspects of Japanese culture that I just can’t seem to accept.

February 15th, 2005 at 12:41 pmJust stumbled on your mimikaki series and I say, it is impressive. I bought the glow pick, and I’ve seen the wire version, but I didn’t realize the selection there is out there! Eductional. Truly educational.
