Your move, creep!
Police in the Kyushu city of Fukuoka made a robot the honorary chief of the day earlier this week in a campaign to promote driving safety.
The battery-powered robot is capable of independent movement, and is equipped with light and sound sensors. The robot also can throw colored balls at people it deems to be acting suspiciously, which means that it is probably more capable of doing more to deter crime than most human policemen in Japan.
According to the report in the Japan Times:
The government designated Fukuoka Prefecture and the cities of Fukuoka and Kitakyushu as special zones for robot research and development in 2003.
Seeing as how the Fukuoka cops and politicians have a bit of a rep for being buyable, I wonder if advanced models of the Fukuoka Robocop will be equipped with an ATM or at least a cash register.
