Crows are not stupid

Tokyo residents know all about crows, on a daily basis, and now comes a new book in English about crows, titled In the Company of Crows and Ravens.
Written by John Marzluff and Tony Angell, the book tells everything we ever wanted to know about crows, and then some. A good book for Halloween!
Though Crows and Ravens is beautiful enough for coffee-table-book status, it advances an edgy, even spooky scientific idea: that throughout history, crows and humans have changed one another’s culture. The birds, along with other social animals like wolves, may have forced humans to band together to keep their hunting prizes from being carried away.
Crows can learn to talk. And they have the ability to wake you up at 5:00 in the morning

November 4th, 2005 at 3:49 pmNational Public Radio (NPR) just did a story on this book. You can listen to it here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4982133

November 4th, 2005 at 5:17 pmThanks, Glenn in Hawaii, for the heads up. Isn’t the Internet amazing? From Taiwan to Japan to Hawaii to Washington DC?
“All Things Considered” is the show to listen to and it goes like this: Canadian nature writer Candace Savage speaks about her book ”Crows: Encounters with the Wise Guys”. Part science, part poetry, it’s been called a celebration of crow consciousness and been featured on Japundit.com.
November 4th, 2005 at 5:18 pmWait a minute, Glenn, I just realized, that’s a different book title by a different author than the two mentioned in the initial post. But thanks for the additional news, anyways…..
November 4th, 2005 at 5:19 pmRight you are Danny. I realized these are two separate books on the same subject being released at about the same time just after I posted my comment. Synchronicity?

November 4th, 2005 at 5:58 pmCrows are smart. So was Ted Bundy. It just makes them worse.
I encourage the few local tombi (kites) to go after the crows, but the crows are like street gangs. One on one, a tombi would rip them apart, but the crows don’t let that happen. In fact, crows are know to gang up on tombi.
In my neighborhood, just ten years ago, the night was filled with sounds of various song birds, and even zoo animals.
Now it’s just crows. Can’t even eat the damn things.
“Oh, but they’re smaaart!”
Phhhhh…
November 4th, 2005 at 9:26 pmIt’s a shame that crows are full of desieses and un-eatable because if it tasted like chicken they would be welcome!
Also, now living in the country side (uhh non-rural area) I haven’t seen a crow ever! So apparently they don’t give two cents about people who live outside of town! YIPPY!
November 4th, 2005 at 11:37 pmCrows are vermin. They are too smart
