Like a lady
A survey by Hakuhodo Institute of Life and Living indicates that many Japanese girls look forward to becoming nursery school teachers or housewives, while girls in China dream of becoming CEOs.
According to the survey, the top careers to which Japanese girl aspire are housewife, flight attendant, and child-care worker. In China, the top desirable careers are CEO, senior manager or manager, and teacher.
“Doubts about the future after a protracted recession have led to strong desire for stability” among young Japanese women, the report said. But in economically booming China, “even ordinary girls want to head corporations or start their own businesses,” it said.
Well, this sounds nice, but the fact of the matter is that women in top managerial posts are very rare in Japan. The notion of becoming a big company CEO probably does not even compute among young woman here.
For the boys, Chinese teens dream of becoming CEOs or doctors, while Japanese boys want to become civil servants or lawyers.
Where is the independent streak among Japanese kids? Based on that quote you provided, maybe if Japan had Hong Kong’s economic policies, their young’uns would be more ambitious.
