“Ou sont les neiges d’antan?” asked a famous French poet long ago. “Where are the snows of yesteryear?” (whatever that means).
This photo from the Mainichi Daily News shows two 20-year-old Japanese women taking part in the recent nationwide Coming-of-Age ceremonies, despite the snow.

Cellphones coming of age, too!
What’s the third one doing? Waiting for a bus?
HA!

January 11th, 2006 at 10:18 amThe author of that line was Francois Villon, I have been informed by a friendly poster. Thanks. The actual line was “Mais ou sont les neige-bunnies d’antan?” [But where are the snowbunnies of yesteryear?]
January 11th, 2006 at 10:21 amWhy did the government change the date of the coming of age day from January 15 to the second Monday in January?
