When the moon hits your eye like a big bowl of ramen
Now I have been known to be a pretty adventuresome eater, but here is something the very sound of which makes me kind of cringe in disgust. . . ramen pie.
A ramen restaurant in Bibai, Hokkaido has developed a dish that puts noodles, pork, and soup stock flavoring into a pastry crust.
“There have been ramen flavored pizzas before, but we’re probably the first place in Japan to make a ramen pie,” a worker from the Biopie Ramen restaurant says. “We want to get ramen pie up there with chicken-on-a-stick as a Bibai specialty.”
Ramen-flavored pizza?
The pie is made with a tart crust that resembles the crust used for quiche Lorraine. Boiled noodles, toppings and egg are added. As the noodles have been cooked in stock, they retain the taste of regular ramen, but have the added advantage of becoming more fragrant when baked. Broth normally used with noodles is included, but in a solid rather than liquid form.
“We’ve managed to keep the ramen flavor while putting it into a pie,” a Biopie employee says.
The pies are reportedly selling well, especially among men and children.
Keep the ramen flavour while adding it to a pie!? Why thats one of lifes great questions solved.
I have to say i didn’t like the sound of this ”Broth normally used with noodles is included, but in a solid rather than liquid form.”

Coming soon: Ramen flavored bottled water!
February 2nd, 2006 at 3:31 amNasty…ramen in a pie is kind of taking the love for ramen to a dangerous extreme. Crossing over that invisible barrier will lead to other bizarre recipes like ramen sundaes and ramen cheeseburgers. Awful idea.

February 2nd, 2006 at 7:51 amIt sounds delicious!! Give it to me!
February 2nd, 2006 at 10:11 amDon’t be fooled by JP’s faux cringe, folks. He’d not only scarf it up; he’d go back for seconds!
February 2nd, 2006 at 12:51 pmJapanese put corn on pizzas, so the idea of a ramen-flavored pizza may not be so strange after all. It was only a question of when they’d come up with it…
February 2nd, 2006 at 1:26 pmChicken pot pie.
February 2nd, 2006 at 1:47 pmThat doesn’t sound so bad.
February 2nd, 2006 at 11:59 pmNow if they’d only make with that ramen flavored bottled water….
I think that’s what you’d call soup.
February 3rd, 2006 at 4:17 amI’d try a slice if I saw it for sale.
