It’s Golden Week in Japan and as is the custom here, people have hit the road to travel back to their hometowns or to popular tourist resorts around the country. This year, however, many people are getting the feeling that Golden Week travel is going to require plenty of gold just to pay their gasoline bills.
On Monday, only two days before the start of the holidays, gasoline stations raised their prices by four to five yen per liter, saying the hike was necessary due to increased wholesale prices.
Gasoline in Japan is currently running about 130 yen per liter for regular and about 140 yen for premium, with prices expected to go even higher in the future.

And my new Roadstar takes hi-oc, wouldn’t you know it…
10,8 skr / liter in sweden thats about 155 yen, it could rise to 13 skr, 200 yen, later this year, during the summer. About, 6,75$/gallon
Funny how the price rises were necessary just two days before the start of the holidays. Shameless.
Motion lotion. I love that term, JP. Has been in use a long time, or did you coin it just now, here? I never heard it before, but what a great way to speak of gasoline!
The term was popular among truckers in the U.S. during the 1970’s CB radio boom. I really don’t know if they are still using it.
Hey, they’ve done it again. And what a coincidence - it’s just a little while until O-bon.
It’s not even subtle.
