For beautiful human scent
Japan cosmetic company Kanebo has come out with a new type of gum for men that they claim will make your boy emit the scent of a rose.
The gum, called “Otoko Kaoru” (male scent) Rose Menthol, contains the fragrant component geraniol, which is found in roses. According to Kanebo’s food research laboratory, the component is emitted from sweat glands easily, in much the same way as garlic and alcohol. Maca, a plant that is rich in nutrition, was added, creating a mint-flavored, sugarless gum.
The gum reportedly is targeting men who are concerned about body odor.
In Japan, it is often reported that young women cannot stand the smell of men, and are particularly put off by the scent of older guys. Apparently this product is an attempt to cash in on the insecurity that such reports have generated.
I’d be concerned about smelling like a rose.
“It’s often reported that young women cannot stand the smell of men” because what is sold in Japan under the name ‘deodorant’ has neither antiperspirant or deodorant properties. Which is a bit of a piss-take at 800yen a can (which doesn’t last long).
July 3rd, 2006 at 12:36 amWhen I used to have Japanese penpals, occasionally we would send each other things. Something they often asked for was deodorant. Amusing at the time, but it makes sense.
July 3rd, 2006 at 2:21 amYes it’s all a bit mal(e)odorous - so to speak.
July 3rd, 2006 at 9:07 amYes I seem to remember that Japanese researchers isolated the chemical that is responsible for that ‘oyaji smell” and created some anit-oyaji deodorant of some sort. Turns out that the concetration of this chemical starts increasing in men’s bodies age 40 and continues to increase as they get older. Any smell sensitive Japaese OL could have told you that!
