Rolling their own

It seems like $100 bills aren’t the only things that North Korea is counterfeiting for fun and profit. Now the word is that the NORKs are earning anywhere from $500 to $700 million a year selling counterfeit tobacco products. In fact, counterfeit tobacco is said to be the top earner among North Korean exports in terms of profit.
[S]ome 10 plants around Pyongyang and Rajin are making fake U.S. and Japanese cigarettes, with profits going to the leadership and military.
The fakes are disguised as shipments from northern China and sent to overseas markets, the majority of them sold in China and some in Japan and the U.S., too.
I assume a few zeros are missing from those totals. Surely $500 a year cannot qualify as a “top earner” for an entire nation.

I also forgot to include a link to the original article, which I now cannot locate. I have inserted an link to another article in Time magazine instead.
