The crooning crapper

Japanese toilet manufacturer TOTO (whose motto on its English website is “Setting the Stage”) has announced a new model with (in addition to the usual heated seat and water jet bum washer) an SD slot and MP3 player.

Simply slip an SD memory card that contains your favorite songs and you can groove as you do your business.
The smart toilet seat also opens automatically when it senses someone approaching.

August 21st, 2006 at 11:35 amBoys, this is no time for crappy puns.
I, for one, am no longer surprised by anything a Japanese toilet may do. I’m surpirsed they haven’t been given voting rights. No disgusting jokes about hanging chads, please.

Japanese toilets are amazing, everyone agrees. But if you travel around Japan the majority of the toilets in restaraunts are the old fashioned kind. In modern hotels they have the newer heated ones. I’ve never bothered with all the technology involved with the Japanese toilets. I’d rather spend my time listening to my mp3 player on the sofa or on the bed instead of the toilet. Although in a country were privacy is at a premium, they may be on to something here?

While a few of them are memorable, the vast majority are nothing but a flush in the can.
August 21st, 2006 at 11:00 pmI’m sure I’m not the only one, but the Japanese toilet + bathroom is like my favorite part of the Japanese homes. A tiny “water closet” with just the high tech toilet inside, and a separate bathroom with faucet and mirrors, then another door to go into the shower + furo. I find the whole thing very personal and relaxing…
