Raunchy SNS in Japan on the rise

Sexii main pageAfter the huge success of social networking services, such as the internationally acclaimed english-language MySpace, and its Japanese equivalent Mixi, the trend seems to be far from fading, as more and more services are jumping on the wagon, targeting various niches and catering to their specific needs.

What caught really my attention are the “Adult OK” , or so they call them, social networking services that are thriving in Japan more than ever before. Those SNSs have taken advantage of the strict policies of Mixi, and are targeting adults who got pissed off of being forbade to share their sexy pictures with their friends. One of the most notable is Sexii, named so as to sound pretty close to Mixi. The name also conveys the “Adult-friendly” aspect of the network, which is actually hard to miss at the first glimpse of the main page, where the login panel hides the chest of a hot naked gal. According to a write-up on last week’s Mainichi’s Wai-Wai column, Sexii has already 8000 members, and this doesn’t seem to slow down, as more and more members are joining, according to the site’s operator:

We never dreamed we’d get so many people registering so quickly and have had to hurry up and put in some more servers. We’re currently using three massive servers to cope with the traffic. Mind you, I think we’re the only place where a company is actually running an adult-oriented SNS. All the others are still being run by individuals.

Well, probably Sexii is just “A littler bit Ecchi and Sexy SNS” as the catchword translates, but I guess this whole business will go way beyond this level sooner or later…Who said S&M partners?
