Gundam grows taller

Gundam in Japan is more than an anime, it’s a culture, a phenomenon, and I’d even dare say, a “cult”. Entire stores are consecrated to Gundam goodies, mainly figurines and parts, and thousands and thousands of Gundam Otaku flock every week to feed their passion for the legendary Mechas.
Bandai is well aware of the fact that Gundam fans , who used to watch the series since the 80s, are not kids anymore. Therefore they started retailing a lifesize gundam plastic model, targeting “fans in their 20s to 40s”. This big “toy” is 5 feet tall (1.5 m) , and weighs 44 pounds (20 Kg), featuring 14 movable and rotating joints, including fingers, and can emit several sound effects that are common in the series. The only downside is its price: 330,000 Yen! (source Engadget)
Heh heh, that girl is only 150cm tall. (with heels)
October 8th, 2006 at 10:36 amNice remark! Bandai are smart enough to choose a rather short model so that Gundam appears relatively taller! an eye trick of some sort!
October 8th, 2006 at 10:39 amWow thats a small girl! But I gotta say though it sure would be pretty damn cool to have one of those in the living room… Er, the Robot I mean!!
Talk about a conversation starter…
October 8th, 2006 at 10:43 amWell, that model is interesting indeed!
October 8th, 2006 at 10:45 am“lifesize” ??? Not even close.
Give it another 30 years and Bandai will come up with an 80m Gundam you can hop into and control. Majority of true otaku will fork up some serious cash for that one.
