A great place to live

A recent report by the U.N. Development Program says that Japan is one of the top 10 countries to live in the world.

The top 10 countries are:

  1. Norway
  2. Iceland
  3. Australia
  4. Ireland
  5. Sweden
  6. Canada
  7. Japan
  8. The United States
  9. Switzerland
  10. The Netherlands

I wonder why Australia tops the US and Japan? Or is that list in no particular order? I’d have thought Japan would be nearer the top of that list, too.

Odd, isn’t it, that the 5th best place to live has the world’s highest suicide rate? And number 10 is pretty questionable these days.
It is a UN report, of course…

Australia is safe, relaxing and beautiful… but it’s also pretty boring. Good to be a kid here, or retire, but not so fun for the inbetween part.

Japan is top of my list, followed by Taiwan, then China and Australia.

Speaking of living in China: do they still have those public toilets where there’s just a long trough in the floor that everyone squats over to do their business so that you watch the unencumbered butt of the person in front of you as you entertain the person behind you? I have to say that walking into a public restroom and seeing that pretty much put the kibosh on my ever living in China. Nice place to visit, though:shock:

Haha, I’m not sure. I always hear about them. I was out in the middle of nowhere, but I never saw one of them. I just went in restaurants, department stores etc. But I avoid public toilets in Australia too.

I think China is just as great as Japan - but in a completely different way. In China, you can just relax, not worry about offending anyone, go by taxi everywhere, eat whatever you want, meet all kinds of people and have lots of adventures.
