In Japan Talk #045 we reported on the fact that the most popular call out food in Japan is pizza, information that came to us courtesy of What Japan Thinks.
Now to round out our Japan pizza knowledge we get a new report on the favorite pizza topping in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Top 10 are:
- Bacon
- Seafood
- Onions
- Corn
- Salami
- Tuna
- Mushrooms
- Ham
- Potatoes
- Green peppers
Other favorites further on down the line are: snow crab, teriyaki chicken, broccoli, gratin, cod roe spiced with red pepper, egg, and shredded seaweed. . . Smothered in mayonnaise, no doubt.
Let me just say what everone’s thinking. Yuck.
November 21st, 2006 at 4:24 pmI can’t believe that mayo isn’t higher on the list. Is it not listed for the same reason that “crust” and “tomato sauce” are not listed? “No mayonnaise please” was the first Japanese expression I learned, and I use it when ordering anything from fried chicken to ice cream.

November 22nd, 2006 at 12:58 pmLike most things Japanese, this is seriously ridiculous. I mean, honestly… I appriciate the creative spirit that took an old idea (pizza) and tried to make it something new…
But this is a failure. This is bloody down right ridiculous!
