Festival Splash!

old image

REUTERS/Yuriko Nakao(JAPAN).

Women splash themselves with ice-cold water during a winter season purification ceremony at the Kanda Myojin shrine in Tokyo January 13, 2007. Some 28 people endured the cold to take part in the annual event.

This reminds me of the Polar Bear festival in North America. The only difference though is in North America the people participating are usually big burly dudes. Just goes to show you that strength is not in the body but in the mind.

It kind of reminds me of a wet t-shirt contest in the middle of winter.

At least someone had the good sense to have women do this…Kudos to Japan. Its a far better than the nasty bear shrinkage contest in America.

I’ll be honest. Any contest that features fairly attractive women getting wet is far more entertaining for me then watching 200 something pound guys go swiming in a lake for 10 seconds then escaping to their vans and calling themselves “men”.

Yeah this is far more entertaining.
