Very Well Worn

Chotiros “Amy” Suriyawong has been reprimanded by her production house and ordered by her university to do community service as well as make a public apology for wearing the revealing dress.
Seems Buddhist morals, or lack thereof, or whatever, are also up for grabs in Thailand, of all places in Asia, where a minor movie actress has been catapulted to worldwide fame for her little black number pictured nearby.
For punishment, Amy was ordered to perform 15 days of community service by reading to the blind.
One wag noted online: “Wearing that dress WAS a community service!”…….

Some people have questioned whether this new morality drive is connected with the new military regime in Bangkok. Yes? No?
[Ms Suriyawong was reportedly forced to demonstrate to the university that the dress had specially sewn-in underwear.]
A Thai writer notes:
When Suriyawong appeared in an outrageously revealing outfit for the Subhannahongse (Thailand’s version of the Academy Awards) presentation, the emerging actress was bombarded with criticism. From her own account, Amy frankly said it was a craving for media attention that had made her pick that outfit, said to be inspired by an evening gown worn either by actress/model Elizabeth Hurley or a US beauty queen.
The actress truly believed the revealing dress would enable her to win ”front-page” treatment from the media. And she was not wrong. But what she did not expect was that things would go way beyond control.
…her acting career appears doomed. The media bombardment has stripped the actress of her more desirable nang ek hopes of a demure heroine. Out of the question.
Amy and two other struggling actresses who also turned up at the Subhannahongse night in scantily-clad gowns, have been penalised by the big boss of the Saha Mongkol Film camp, Somsak ”Sia Jiang” Techarattanaprasert, who ordered a director to remove all the three from the cast of a film, Suai Samurai, for being ”too sexy” and revealing too much.
