Sony presents its online network for PS3

Not to be done by other social networks and online worlds, MSNBC and Associated Press are reporting that Sony will launch its own virtual universe for its Playstation 3 console.

“Home” is a real-time, networked world for the PlayStation 3 in which players create human-looking characters called avatars. They can buy clothing, furniture and videos to play on a virtual flat-screen television in their virtual apartments.

The concept is strikingly similar to Linden Lab’s “Second Life,” a Web-based phenomenon with nearly 4.5 million residents. But Sony’s world will feature heavy doses of video games for avatars to play, as well as virtual arcades, music, movies and other Sony-approved media downloads.

Yeah. “Sony-approved,” is the key word here. I’m sorry, but the concept of anything involving Sony and the word “networking” is just somewhat short of hilarious. This is company notorious for making its products as completely incompatible with the rest of the world as possible.

But this is great. Just what Sony always wanted. Finally a world full of people that they can control, who will only use only Sony products through a Sony console which is the only way of entering the Sony-compatible universe!

    Networking the Sony way.

I gave up on Sony products after the frustration of trying to use a Sony phone was the last Sony straw.

Plays music, they say. Is it easy to load music onto the phone, I asked the bod in the phone shop. Oh yes, you just need a card reader, says bod. But aha, not just any card reader, I found out after I bought a cheap, generic one. No, a Sony one. Far more expensive, and comes bundled with counter-intuitive, buggy Sony software. Which crashed every time if you connected up a card with any information on it, so you had to format the card (on the other, cheaper generic reader!) beforehand.

This final chapter in my Sony User Experience was not dissimilar from previous chapters, voluntarily paying to be hindered at every step.

So I can see exactly where Nicodraxus is coming from.

It’s a shame the XBox 360 is selling so poorly over there. It’s better than the PlayStation 3 in just about every way.

    Overoften,
If you are so anti Sony, than the HD-DVD is the only way to go.

The odds seem to be going Blu-ray’s way anyway. Recently the porn industry agreed to go exclusively with HD-DVD and use their codec for online videos in the future. Many credit the porn industry picking VHS over BETAMAX was responsible for the triumph of the format.

I love that article by the way, remora would have a field day.

Another funny aspect to this is the initial resistance on the female porn stars, since the higher resolution would accentuate their flaws.
