Tokyo is to be Japan’s Olympic offering for 2016

» by alexpappas in: Sports

Tokyo has beaten out Fukuoka and has become Japan’s official city of offering for the bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

A 55-member panel of Japan’s sporting federation and of course Japan’s Olympic committee voted for Tokyo with a 33 to 22 result. The last time Tokyo host the Olympics was in the summer of 1964. But now that Tokyo has been chosen it will be up against several other big name cities in the world who seem to be equally hungry for the opportunity to have the Olympics come to their cities. Some names already mentioned have been San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, New Delhi, and Toronto.

Living in a city (whatever) that’s hosting the next winter games, all I can say is don’t do it. Really. Trust me. So not worth it. Really… . Grew up in Montreal. Games overran to tune of $1 billion. Taxpayers just finished paying it, thirty years later.

Really. Not worth it. Run like hell from those thoughts. Bad sucky idea. Nasty.

San Francisco abandoned its bid last fall. America’s Olympic committee is deciding today whether Los Angeles or Chicago will be its remaining contender.

I’m glad the Toronto lost the bid to Atlanta. It would’ve been a financial disaster for Toronto.

It was a financial disaster for Atlanta. The ‘96 Olympics were supposed to put us on the map as an “international” travel destination. 10 years later, we have competitor housing converted into Ga. Tech dorms that are crumbling and sinking, 2 stadiums we can’t fill, and roads with potholes the size of my Alfa Romeo Spider.
