All aboard!

Spotted a post on Plastic Bamboo about a new bar in Osaka that features a model railroad theme.

Train bar

Well, the bar may be new but the model railroad theme definitely is not. As soon as I saw the above photo I was taken back to my Southside Chicago childhood to a place where my father would sometimes take the kids to eat: Snackville Junction.

Snackville Junction had a railroad theme with crossing lights and whistles, a cook who wore an engineer’s cap, and a model train. Not only that, any food you ordered arrived on a model train that ran around the entire U-shaped counter.

After doing a GOOGLE search based on the Osaka story, I was surprise to find out that the 60-year-old Snackville Junction is still operating. However, the current owners are planning to close the place because they wanted to retire and could not find a buyer. But news reports of the planned closing generated so much publicity that it looks like a new owner may come in and keep the Snackville Junction tradition alive.

I also found the following on YouTube.
