A matter of inches

Saaya IrieMany people decry the fact that the Japanese diet is losing ground to Western foods, pointing out that it is causing various health problems among the Japanese.

Well, one silver lining behind this particular dark cloud is the fact that a Westernized diet also is making Japanese women curvier.

Today’s young women wear a bra at least two sizes larger than their mothers. Young Japanese women are also taller and have smaller waistlines.

Experts say that a diet that is richer in fat and protein is behind the inches being added to female frame in Japan.

Yeah, two sizes larger than their mothers, and four sizes larger than their breasts.

Ingenious choice of photos… I think.

During the month I spent at Kansai Gaidai back in the summer of 2005, I was a bit disturbed by the fact that seemingly about a quarter to a third of the women students there looked like they were thirteen years of age. Health problems among some of the population are a small and worthwhile price for having women who actually have breasts, are over five feet tall, and can bench more than sixty pounds.

I didn’t know the girl of the photo, Saaya Irie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saaya_Irie

Now I know she is still 13 years of age.

Paul, some of that is your own perceptions. I mean, they’re not 13, but if they appear that way to you it isn’t some negative aspect of what kinds of bodies, faces, etc. the Japanese you encountered possessed, but your own way of looking at things. I remember the time I kept seeing people I thought I knew from Maebashi when traveling in Yokohama, quite far away. Turned out I was just seeing similar faces and my brain was reacting in weird ways, i.e., they all look alike. (Very stupid, but I couldn’t argue with my brain at the time.)

    Nada como uma boa dieta

É o que dizem os japoneses para as japonesas. “- Garçom, sushi para mim. Carne de sol para ela. E uma feijoada.” Claudio…
