Why else would we lose?
The other day Sochi, Russia was selected to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
As always happens when an Olympic host city is announced, the residents of the selected venue celebrate while those who live in the cities that did not make it struggle to deal with their disappointment.
Though no one really knows what prompted the International Olympic Committee session in Guatemala City to give the nod to Sochi, there are those who are convinced that it is all part of an international conspiracy aimed at expressing disgust with small countries.
“What did South Korea not have that the other place did?” asked sixth-grader Lee Da-hae as she chatted with friends on their way to school.
“This is all because they looked down on us for being a small country. Why else would we lose?”

July 10th, 2007 at 11:39 amSixth-grader Lee Da-hae is developing a finely honed inferiority complex there, isn’t she. Well done, girl. A life of low self-esteem and disappointment awaits. Go out and grab it!
Besides, as the article says, Korea got the 2011 world athletics championships and the 2014 Asian Games (and they shared the 2002 FIFA World Cup). They’ve not got much to complain about, really.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:08 pmLow self-esteem, and that which is someone else’s fault, seems to be a treasured quality among the Korean people:roll:
July 10th, 2007 at 1:41 pmKorean people are famous for excitable temperament. They are easily upset by this kind of international contest or competition.
“Pyeongchang was an unknown town. Now it is on the world stage, and it fought well and fought honorably,” said Chung wiping away tears.
Why do those Korean adult men cry for just a contest which doesn’t matter as a big deal to ordinary people ? Couples years ago, when Nagoya city of Japan was lost in the Olympic hosting city award, most people in Nagoya were quite calm or just in cynical smile rather than disappointment.
