Hello Kitty, Goodbye Dignity; II

Following on from Paul’s post this morning about using Kitty-chan (Hello Kitty) to humiliate your cat, well it appears it can also be used to humiliate corrupt policemen.
If further proof were needed that Sanrio’s ‘finest’ is an instrument of torture, it comes from Thailand. Poorly-performing plods there are being made to wear pink Kitty armbands, according to a BBC report.
TravelHappy shows a photo of the very device in question, taken from the front page of the Bangkok Post.
It appears that the ‘Crime Suppression Unit’ have had to invent a more novel way of tackling indiscipline among the officers as previous warnings and tactics haven’t worked. So now they’re going for bright pink armbands with Kitty-chan’s face emblazoned on it.
I saw that one! The delinquent cops are apparently totally humiliated by having the “girly” and definitely non-macho (which is how they want to see themselves) armbands on their massive biceps! I recall that at camp in the Summer the last one to meals or whatever has to wear a plastic turtle around their neck the whole day. But it just seemed to be kind of cool, not really a punishment–obviously Kitty-chan is not though… And–remember these are not TOTALLY corrupt cops they were just late for work or caught littering or something. But I have have seen enough Hong Kong movies to know that the REALLY corrupt cops like the Chief will not have to wear the armband?

August 7th, 2007 at 6:20 pmOK. Who else thinks the wing-ed montkeys at Sanrio are frantically looking to mutate human DNA to create Hello Kitty police officers; one sweet dopey stare and the perpetrator confesses while emitting a girly ‘kaaaaa-waaiiii’ sigh.
