Beware of NORTON 360
11/26/2007 @ 3:01 pm
If anyone out there is considering an upgrade to NORTON 360, just a friendly word of warning. . . Don’t!
We came up for an annual renewal of Norton Internet Security 2006 and made the mistake of clickiing the Norton 360 upgrade instead, being tempted by the fact that purchasing a single license allowed you to install it on up to three computers.
What a mistake!
My system slowed down so much I felt like I was back in the 16-bit CPU days. I would click a button or execute a command and had to standby waiting for the computer to respond.
Anyway, we have returned to NS 2006 and things are pretty much back to normal.
Any IT professional will tell you to stay away from any Symantec products, maybe except Partition Magic. But for sure don’t usre Antivirus, Firewalls and complete security suits from them.
They are slow, they slow your machine down, they mess with parts of the system they shouldn’t mess, the UnInstall never really works (they have a separate, “complete” uninstall tool on their homepage!!) and the Norton response time to threats is slow.
This is crap software, only popular because of smart OEM contracts.

Yeah I stopped Using Nortons back in the Mac OS 9 days.
November 26th, 2007 at 9:53 pmAs interesting as the “never use Norton” comments always are, how about a few “always use XXX”?
November 26th, 2007 at 11:16 pmf00k norton and that sophos crap. It really makes the computer effin slow. Try the free AVG anti virus! that is a good one!

Go there, download Linux. No viruses, no spyware, no adware, free software. You can sleep easier knowing that your money isn’t going to fund an inherently evil corporation; and that your data is safe.
Free Open Source Software runs the internet. Shouldn’t it be running your desktop, too?
November 27th, 2007 at 10:23 amI sometimes wonder if Linux contains subliminal messages.
November 27th, 2007 at 10:41 amNorton’s poison. It’s worse than the spyware and viruses! If you must use Windows download AVG Free. Obviously it’d be better to buy a Mac or install Linux, since those platforms are not plagued by malware, but that’s not always a practical option. I’d especially recommend a Mac, since Macs can also run Windows for those times when you’ve just GOT to play Minesweeper and Freecell.
