Does anyone have advice or tips for doing internet business in Japan? Any groups out there or people who understand the Japanese web business world?
Found this reference to D. Bloom’s pet cause (or at least, one of them): http://www.geekologie.com/2008/01/the_world_is_doomed_head_for_t.php
10 months ago a bunch of Taiwanese Butterfly’s became awfully confused on their annual migration route (probably due to low visibility caused by the increasing pollution wafting in from PRC) if they repeat their behaviour this season one can only conclude that China+Pollution is a fact.

What kind of advice would you need?
I’ve worked in two Japanese web agencies during 3 years but it was almost ten years ago
Since then, I’ve been working as a freelance webdesigner mostly for French clients but I currently have Japanese friends who own a online business.

vittel, sounds like “Fun with Dick and Jane”!
vittel, as far as adivce, I would ask about some web marketing resources in Japan (with specific focus on the Japanese market). Aside from that, perhaps some groups or communities which can provide advice - or where I can find skilled advisors. Any suggestions?
Only thing that springs to mind is japundits contributor dr. Paul Nicholls site http://www.ebiztutors.com/
Ed, here is a start :

RYO,
My biggest pet peeve is when people assume my pet peeves are my pet peeves. They are not my pet peeves. Anyways, I am no longer pet peeving about globalw arming or climate change. It’s a hoax. Turns out. After studying the matter and consulting with experts, I am now of the opinion that global warming is a hoax from the leftwing, and it’s just the normal weather of our world. So this pet peeve is dead in the water. Forget climate change. I was wrong about that one, and I am bound to be wrong about alot of other things in the future, too. Live and learn, I say. There is nothing to worry about, in terms of the weather. Like Mark Twain said, if you don’t like the weather, wait a bit, and it will change.
Cheers,
Danny (with sense of humor intact)

There was an article in the New York Times recently about some novels written on cellphones in Japan by young women, teens and early 20s, and one of them by “Rin” sold 400,000 copies as a book when it was published in paper format, after being keyed in by thumb for a year on her phone. Is that really true? Her novel sold 400,000 copies in Japan? Was it any good? Did the critics accept that as literature or what? Crazy world….. and interesting!
Sorry, Danny. (Though I’m not sure why you are talking about pet “peeves”. I identified the contents of the link I provided as one of your pet causes.)
RYO, my mistake: I read the post so quickly that my aging brain saw pet cause for pet peeve. I gotta slow down and read correctly. SMILE. RE: “Sorry, Danny. (Though I’m not sure why you are talking about pet “peeves”. I identified the contents of the link I provided as one of your pet causes.)”
Yes, i meant to say pet cause. And yes, no more global warming posts here, comments too, since global warming is a hoax and not worth talking about. I am no longer working on that pet cause…… But that GERBIL CITY link is a laff riot…….I am glad people see some humor in all this, RYO, if nothing else. But since global warming is certainly NOT happening, I will no longer comment on such silliness……it’s just normal weather. Nothing to worry about.

FYI
Learning Japanese with Beb and Alex
Great Pod Cast for those wanting to start learning Japanese or those who have reached a plateau in their Japanese.
http://japanese.libsyn.com
I have no affiliation with these guys, except that I subscribe to their pod cast episodes. They do a good job. They are not organized and experienced like JP, but fun to listen to. Alex, I believe is an Ozzy and Beb is a soon to be music prodigy. Alex’s buddy Rob often is on, and he is awesome. All of them, make a great pod cast for learning Japanese - oops forgot that it is taught in Kansai bin. Their lessons are for the advanced and beginner. Wish someone would do a pod cast for learning Japanese in Hakata Bin. Oh yeah!
Just sharing some stuff -

Hey, I wonder if JP hosted the music show in Mr. Donuts back in the 90’s. I remember going into Mr. Donuts (in Fukuoka) and hearing a guy with JP’s voice DJ music - (like dinning music). It sounded like the top 40 count down. Your thoughts?
No, Kelly, that wasn’t me at Mr. Donuts. I did, however, appear regularly on a weekly radio show during the early ’70s on KBC (Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Company) where I talked about the meaning of popular rock music lyrics and provided some background about the U.S. rock scene.
