In case of earthquake. . . Pray really hard.

The next time someone tells you that, in case of an earthquake, turn off the gas, get under a table, stand in a doorway, and do all of that other good stuff, remember this video which was taken by a camera that was rolling when the Great Hanshin (Kobe) Earthquake hit in 1995.

I’ve seen that video a couple of times before but never knew it was made in the Kobe quake. pretty terrifying. I believe Kobe’s Luminarie is the festival day they remember the Hanshin quake!

Well, he would have gotten under his desk if it had just stopped moving around.

Reminds me, in an aftershock down here in Fukuoka, we were all woken up by shaking at 6am. I rolled on top of my wife and 2 year old to help protect them if anything fell. I knew there was a big framed picture above my head, and I kept bracing to get a solid whack on my bald and sensitive head. After it stopped, my wife told me she had taken it down the day before because she was worried about aftershocks.

One time I was thankful for her compulsive fretting about things that might happen.
