Natto Bagel

Inspired by the comments on Japundit regarding my “real natto” post, I decided this morning to try out a natto bagel.

I have to admit, it was really, really good. And really filling.

I expect one of you cafes in Tokyo to start putting this on your menu for “morning set.”

    Good one, Marie!

How did you keep the natto from making its way through the hole in the middle?

vomit!..my mamagon tried to stir me up once with that kinda stuff for breakfast…I just wandered across the road and grabbed a beer outta the machine and a packet of fags..and said “mama what’s that shite?”…only dogs will lick their own vomit.

I haven’t tried this but it looks good. Most mornings I eat my natto on toast, sometimes with cheese melted on top. For something a little different, I’d recommend a toasted natto/Nutella sandwich - I call it the Nattella.

I like bagels and I like natto but I would not combine the 2. Also, bagels in Japan are disgusting.

*gag* …. wow, you are one brave soul.

Is that natto prepared in the same way as eaten in a japanese breakfast; all slimy and stuff?

Where do I file charges for visual assault for all these recent pictures of rotten beans? I demand justice! Now excuse me while I go hurl.

Marie, is that cream cheese on top? Also, did you season the natto with anything (shoyu, mustard, etc), or did you mix it plain? I’m a natto fanatic, I’ll try this one for sure.

Yes, that is cream cheese on top, and yes I seasoned the natto. But I think you can try it any way and see what works for you!

And the truth is, I have never had a bagel in Japan. I’ve never even seen one. It’s just a matter of time. I’m telling you!

Apologies to RTN, who has always been so nice.

Ed, the natto just stayed put. What can I say?

Supercoolmanchi and feitclub–let me know how it goes!
