JAPUNDIT Open Thread - 017

It’s Golden Week and things are slow, but here is the Open Thread for this week.

Readers are invited to discuss things that have been on their minds, regardless of whether they are on topic.

If you are dying to say something that normally would be deleted under comment rules, here is your chance. Rules are very loose for open thread posts, and usual restrictions concerning topic matter do not apply.

Feel free to sound off about anything you want.

    Marie
    Jon
    David
    Brian
Edward & Peter..(uncle tom cobbly and all..)

when you set out to do a Post, do you feel as though you are obligated to submit something ?

you know? like a journalist who has to meet a DEAD-line.

    2. Why can’t we have an up-to-date interview with EC ?..i suggest Marie or David..ask the hard questions guys!!

    thankyou

    ..late call on this.

Marie interviews Edward and asks some penetrating questions and get some quite revealing answers.

Why can’t we have a quiz?

    “10 questions to ask EC”

    1. Do socks have an underlying significance in your everyday life?

    2…..

    rem,

Concerning deadlines. . . We have a loose schedule here of midnight, 6, noon, and 6 (Japan Standard Time), but that is a guideline for posting when someone has something to say, not really a hard deadline saying that something must be posted at these times.

I normally try to fill in the arriving slots if they are empty, but this being the weekend I also am putting together the podcast so nothing is being posted today. I guess the others also are busy with their normal lives.

I don’t know about the others, but for me posting is a kind of up and down thing. At times it is the most enjoyable thing in the world. At other times it is a total drag. Especially when the weather is warm and outdoor activies beckon.

To answer your question. . . Sometimes.

I think it’s high time that one of us interviewed Ed.

Marie Mockett on May 4th, 2008
  • 6

after wading thru that convoluted explanation Edward..yes!, I get the massage. (whoops-a-daisy) there goes my speling again

and I think that Marie would be the perfect Candy-Date for the task of interviewing ..the inner, private, sensitive type of person that we know wot you are…

    p.s.

any news on my sock queery?

I want Bart to interview his mentor. That would be… interesting?

OK. Do Japanese baseball memorabilia have something this wacky?
http://www.leeunplugged.com/? Lee Elia was the Chicago Cubs manager who went on a memorable, profanity-laiden tirade 25 years ago that was stunning in it’s… um. Yeah.

He doesn’t seem to like the Chicago fans… or the Cardinals or the Dodgers… . Man. This guy musta been in the US navy at some time… http://www.speakeasy.org/~bucky/lee_elia_br.mp3 . This is most certainly *not* office/kid/faint-hearted. AP Baseball podcast just interviewed Lee about his mythical mouthful. It’s available at feed://podcast.ap.org/podcasts/AP_Baseball.xml .

But, somehow, I think a Japanese company would make a cooler, neater, more innovative souvenir :::sigh:::.

I don’t suppose an Japanese manager’s ever gone so totally off the grid?

well, one has to wonder that the longer one is associated with Japan the more non-committal one’s replies to straightforward questions become…

    (case in point)

“To answer your question. . . Sometimes” (EC)

well, why bother with a tedious interview?..maybe Edward should interview himself.

Now, that really would be a groundbreaking Japan Blog Event.

*hmmm?..20 questions I’ve always wanted to ask myself..*

Speaking of interviewing Ed, how is the garlic growing? remora, quick question for you: are those toe socks or toeless socks that you’re asking about?

    Re: Self-interview

Great suggestion, rem. There actually are a few things I’ve been meaning to take up with myself, and this could be a real ice breaker.

    Re: Interview by Bart

If you could see the e-mail I still receive about Bart. . .

    Marie,Marie..quite contrary
    how does your garden grow?

    “Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
    How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.”

and of course! no mention of the vampire-defanging Garlic

Just noticed that a lot of the commercial channel news coverage of the US election refers to Obama as Obama, but to Clinton as Hilary (and to McCain not at all).
Not that I’m a Clinton fan at all, but the disparity seems a little disrespectful. Any thoughts?

    overoften on May 8th, 2008
  • 20

    O-O,

    It could be because:

    a. To avoid confusing her with The Other Clinton

    b. They are unsure of what last name she is using this time around

Personally, I love reading the news, etc. and enjoy sharing what I’ve read with others so Japundit is a great outlet for me. There are no deadlines, as such. We post whenever we find something we want to share, so there is no pressure.

I think many people that don’t like Obama, like to use only “Obama” because they are trying to give his name a negative connotation, because it sounds like “Osama.”

In fact some right wing commentators have slipped up a few times and called him “Osama.”
