Lost Parrot Speaks His Way Home

» by laurel in: Cute, Japan

parrot

I read this little heartwarmer on CNN today, which is a great break from the normal news.

Yosuke the parrot was found on a roof of a building in Nagareyama, a city near Tokyo. The police took the African Grey in while they investigated and for two weeks the parrot kept quiet. When transfered to a vet, the parrot finally spoke:

“I’m Mr. Yosuke Nakamura,” the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.

The vet took the parrot home to the pleased Nakamura family.

I dunno… I’m watching the Mariners fall apart because of pitching *again*, my back’s sprained and I’m either on my back on a heating pad or waddling around trying not to trip or move my upper body too much, I ended up watching ‘Shoujyo (An Adolescent)’ for some awful reason and now I’m mentally scarred, my major league baseballs games are now being peppered with Yahoo ads for rap (do I *look* like I like rap?), I’ve just discovered I sort of forgot about this $10,000 student loan from more than ten years ago, and it’s way due, and two books I’ve purchased from Amazon have gone missing in the mail.

    I needed a sweet story like this… .

I assume the parrot Yosuke wanted to go home so he started telling it, only not knowing exactly what his story meant.

In Japanese we have the expression ” Oomu Gaeshi (Parrot Response) “, which I don’t know has the same meaning in English.
